Captain Elaine Chiang was raised in Coquitlam, British Columbia. She completed the International Baccalaureate Program at Port Moody Secondary School and proceeded to attend Simon Fraser University for her Systems Engineering undergraduate degree. She is currently employed as a Software Developer for mobile technologies.
The cadet program has been a significant part of Captain Chiang’s upbringing. She joined the cadet program in 759 Falcon Squadron in Burnaby at 12 years old and graduated from the program as a Warrant Officer Second Class with lifelong friendships and experiences.
Upon graduating from the program, she joined the Cadet Instructor Cadre as a member of the Canadian Forces Reserve in 2010. From 2010-2016, Captain Chiang served as Band Officer and Training Officer at 754 Phoenix Squadron leading the squadron’s 65 piece provincial award-winning band. In 2016, Captain Chiang helped spearhead and charter a new cadet squadron in the Lower Mainland which is now officially known as 808 Coquitlam Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron. In September 2019, Captain Chiang was appointed the second Commanding Officer of 808 Coquitlam Squadron.
Since 2010, Captain Chiang has completed service at Albert Head Cadet Training Centre, and has been employed as a Staff Officer at the Regional Cadet Support Unit (Pacific). She has been active in the development and delivery of Year 5 Workshops to senior cadets all over British Columbia, and has also provided musical instruction to cadets in communities across BC for the past decade.
Captain Chiang currently resides in Victoria, British Columbia with her husband and dog.
